The GIS Technician supports the electric cooperative by creating, maintaining, and updating geospatial data essential for system planning, operations, and asset management. This role is responsible for collecting field data, editing and verifying map accuracy, and producing detailed maps and reports used by engineering, operations, and management. The technician ensures that all GIS datasets reflect current infrastructure, including lines, equipment, easements, and service locations. Additional responsibilities include assisting with system modeling, integrating GIS with other enterprise systems, and providing mapping support during outages and emergency response. Strong attention to detail, proficiency with GIS software, and the ability to collaborate with cross?department teams are key to success in this role.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
•An associate’s degree in GIS, Technical Drawing or equivalent is preferred.
•Must be able to operate the cooperative’s mapping software, computer, and associated equipment.
•Must also be able to utilize typical office productivity computer software and other office equipment.
•The ideal candidate will have experience in a utility or engineering workplace.
WORK CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
•This position requires office and field work.
•Some overtime may be required.
•In times of extreme emergency, may be required to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
