Control Tech/Plumber Apprentice

Assist Journeyperson Control Technician in installing and troubleshooting pneumatic and direct digital building management systems, as well as electronic HVAC temperature controls, within university facilities. Gain knowledge and experience during the training period. Upon successful completion of apprenticeship,
employee will be classified as a Journeyperson Control Technician.

This position is covered by the BTC Collective Bargaining Agreement. Starting rate of pay for an Plumber Apprentice is $22.26.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Mechanical aptitude for equipment repair and maintenance
- Excellent verbal and written skills, customer relations skills, and the ability to work in a team environment
- Must belong to the local Plumbers and Steamfitters Union or be able to join within 30 days after starting employment at Cornell
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license; may be required to operate a motor vehicle (your own vehicle or Cornell-owned) to travel to/from job sites
- Ability to maintain safe work environment
- Must be able to wear respirator and other employer-provided safety and PPE
- Risk exposure to asbestos, toxic vapors, heat, cold, height and accumulated dirt
- Availability to work overtime as duties require, including weekend
- Possibility of shift work
- Able to ascend and descend heights and have agility and freedom of movement
- Climb stairs and ladders
- Able to move easily in confined spaces
- Ability to wear a respirator and other employer-provided safety equipment
- Ability to lift and/or move 50 pounds
Preferred Qualifications:
- Work experience in the plumbing/control field and formal training beyond high school strongly desired
