We currently have an opening for a GIS Technician in the EngineeringDepartment. This position reports to the GIS Supervisor. This position will be responsible for, but not limited to:
Updates and maintains various systems including NISC and GIS platforms reflecting changes made to the electrical system and equipment relating to new construction, line conversions, maintenance programs, switching operations, phase changes, etc.
Maintains an efficient and accurate electronic and paper record-keeping system of current and historical documents related to the construction and maintenance of the cooperative’s distribution system.
Provides technical support both in person and remotely to other users of the GIS system by researching problems, troubleshooting, and answering questions.
Assists in the development and implementation of the GIS system.
Processes engineering work orders, creates material lists for storeroom, and distributes staking sheets.
Processes completed staking sheets, sets up new map records and updates files as needed.
Determines address assignments to update files by working closely with city and county planning and zoning office personnel to include city limit and zoning changes.
Reviews, researches, and makes necessary corrections to maps, meters, pole inventory, apparatus inventory, and billing files as needed.
Inputs outage calls into the Outage Management System.
Maintains a safe working environment by adhering to policies procedures and regulations.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities required for this position:
Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must possess the ability to learn and apply technical
Two years of service with a utility or similar business that uses a GIS system is desired but not required.
Must possess working knowledge of computers and computer programs including NISC’s Software Suite and Microsoft Office.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Must possess good verbal and written communication skills.
Must be very detail-oriented to perform technical tasks with little to no room for error.
Must possess the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and complete necessary reports.
Must be familiar with the Cooperative’s service territory.
Must possess a friendly personality and get along well with others with diverse backgrounds and experience.
Must possess the ability to quickly identify and resolve problems using polite, clear, and constructive communication.
Candidates must be able to perform duties of the position by sitting, standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, and kneeling.
Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
Regular, predictable attendance is required. This is an in-office position with some occasional field work. Overtime may be required. A criminal background check and drug test will be conducted after a job offer is made. Boone Electric Cooperative is a drug-free workplace.
