Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Security Systems Technician for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). The position is primarily responsible for the installation and repair of the campus-wide card access security system. Duties include the installation of security panels, field interface devices, card readers, motion detectors, request to exit devices, door contacts, limit switches, fiber optic security cabling and all related control wiring.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Primarily Works with the security system software to program additional points, troubleshoot existing alarms, points in trouble and controllers that are off line.
Detects faulty operation of equipment, reports questionable conditions to supervisor; issues work orders to supervisor as necessary.
Works with the security system software to develop regular reports to management on the status of campus security systems. This includes number of points in alarm and/or bypassed.
Responsible for minimizing these points.
Conducts inventory of equipment, materials and supplies.
Advises management when to reorder stock.
Responsible for estimating work time, writing up list of appropriate and needed materials, and providing such materials for himself/herself or the group.
Provides guidance and instruction to craft trainees.
Minimum Education and Experience:
High school/vocational school education or equivalent, plus four years of experience performing maintenance and repair work on security access systems, electrical equipment and circuitry.
Successful completion of an approved training program or a certified apprenticeship program in Security/Access Systems, plus two years experience and proven competency performing complex and varied repair and maintenance of electronic equipment and circuitry including network communication wiring.
