The College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a Fabrication Instructor for prototyping facilities that are a focal point for education and research activities within the college and across the university. Facilities personnel, consisting of 6 full time professional staff and numerous student workers, currently train hundreds of student users per year in 3D printing, laser cutting, electronics, wood working, and metal machining. These numbers continue to grow as new resources become available and the broader university community gains access to these facilities.
Core responsibilities include:
Assisting student fabrication facilities in the College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University.
Both formally and informally teaching, mentoring, and supervising students in the safe and effective use of prototyping equipment.
Delivering training programs and programmatic activities in the areas of electronic and mechanical design and fabrication tools and equipment
Monitoring student open hours to ensure safe operation of equipment, to provide additional skills instruction, and to advise on component design and construction
Helping students fabricate their own apparatus for course and extracurricular projects
Providing design and prototyping advice to students, faculty, and staff engaged in academic, club, entrepreneurial, and extracurricular design-build projects
Identifying and fixing issues with electronic assemblies
Assisting undergraduate and graduate students in work related to electrical engineering such as PCB fabrication, circuit design, electronic devices, as well as basic circuit and electronics courses, and related topics.
Contributing to the management, maintenance, and operation of the fabrication shop facilities to ensure a safe and efficient work environment
Performing multiple duties, in at times a fast-paced work environment, switching tasks as necessary to meet demand

You should demonstrate:
Qualifications:
Associate degree in technology-related field required
2+ years of relevant work experience
Proficiency in proper formulas and concepts to analyze electrical circuit principles, including voltage, resistance, continuity, power and current protection
Expertise in Arduino and/or Raspberry Pi microcontroller development, C/C++ and/or Python
Strong electronics debugging skills with experience in inspecting and testing electrical systems and equipment
Ability to design, control, test, and implement electrical systems and products
Expertise in soldering and PCB fabrication
Experience using PCB design software and CAD software
